The Course
This Level 2 program builds practical skills for facilitating social-emotional learning and supporting youth mental health across classrooms and community settings. You’ll explore adolescent development, SEL frameworks, common mental-health challenges, risk and protective factors, and culturally responsive, trauma-informed practices. Through interactive labs, role-plays, and case simulations, you’ll practice group facilitation, de-escalation, safety planning, and ethical boundaries, while learning how to document progress and coordinate referrals with caregivers and local services.
Expect a job-ready toolkit—session plans, screeners, conversation guides, and referral templates—that you can use the very next day. You’ll gain confidence to run small-group SEL sessions, integrate Tier 1 strategies into lessons, spot early warning signs, respond to crises, and build family and community partnerships, improving climate, attendance, and well-being while safeguarding student dignity.
What you will learn
I started this course after years of coaching youth workers who cared deeply but felt unsure how to structure effective, safe support for young people, so I built a clear, starter-friendly path that demystifies social-emotional learning and youth mental health. You’ll move through bite-sized lessons that stack logically—foundations, safety, facilitation skills, and practice—using real-world scenarios, plain-language scripts, and simple checklists to keep you on track. I’ve carefully crafted every module with evidence-based tools, trauma-informed and culturally responsive tips, and guided reflections so you build both skill and confidence without overwhelm. The flow is predictable and organized—learn, try, reflect, and refine—so you always know what’s next. By the end, you’ll have a practical toolkit and a facilitation plan you can adapt to any setting, making your first steps both safer and more impactful.
Curriculum
Your instructor
I’m a lifelong educator with nearly 25 years in classrooms, clinics, and community programs, specializing in SEL and youth mental health facilitation. As founder of Be Well School, I’ve designed evidence‑informed curricula and trained thousands of educators, counselors, and youth workers across North America. My work blends counseling psychology with experiential methods—like my Emotional Experience Learning Model—to help young people practice skills through short, story‑driven scenarios that build regulation, resilience, and wiser decision‑making.
I teach this course the way I serve youth: practical, relationship‑centered, and grounded in real‑world challenges. Expect clear models, ready‑to‑use tools, and plenty of guided practice—so you leave confident facilitating sensitive conversations, supporting diverse learners, and responding early and effectively. I care deeply about this work as a parent and partner, and I bring humor, compassion, and high expectations to every session. My goal is simple: empower you to create safer, stronger spaces where students can learn and heal.
